As you can see the building has gained a 3rd floor over the years and has become attached to the building on the left.  The building is listed and in the cellar there are archways which look as if they could be old tunnel entrances...... where they lead to is unknown but they point towards St Giles Church which is directly behind the shop. This excerpt was taken from a website on local churches ... are the idea of there being tunnels just fiction? It is said by locals that the area has many tunnels..... where they lead and what they were for seems to be a mystery ..... for the moment! Below are picture on the cellar - as you can see part of the floor has been filled with concrete to raise it - you can see the top of the tunnel door just beyond the cobbled stones.

Newcastle-under-Lyme - Churches
Newcastle has many places of worship including 'Newcastle's Faith' which is an old non-conformist place of worship, the 'Old Meeting house', connected to the church of St Giles'. For many years it has been used by the Unitarians, amongst whom were Josiah Wedgwood and his family. It is said monks had a secret passage in the church of St. Giles, but this is more folk-lore than fact. Newcastle is a Methodists stronghold, especially the Kidsgrove area.

North Staffordshire Paranormal Group carried out an investigation at the shop before it opened ....... below are some pictures of the night..... can you see the orbs?
